Y'all,
I usually show up on Mondays with job links. Today, I need to show up differently.
If you saw what happened Saturday, an American man executed by U.S. immigration authorities, on video, despite official statements claiming otherwise, you know why.
I'm not here to tell you what to think politically. I am here to say: what we witnessed is not normal. And the gap between what we saw and what we were told should alarm all of us, regardless of where we sit.
We have a Bill of Rights. Due process. The right to not be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. These aren't partisan ideas. They're the foundation of how our society works.
If you're feeling shaken, confused, or numb, that's a reasonable response to an unreasonable thing.
Here's what I'd encourage:
Contact your elected officials. Your Senators and Congressional representatives need to hear from constituents. [Find yours here: house.gov/representatives | senate.gov/senators]
Talk to someone you trust. Processing state violence in real-time is not something we're built to do alone.
Give yourself permission to not be okay today.
Some of you may want me to "stick to jobs." I can’t. My values are clear: I give a damn about people. The whole person. And I cannot stay silent when the foundation of our rights is being tested in plain sight.
The job links will be here Friday. Today, take care of yourselves and each other.
