The Calendar Flipped to 2026

Your job search didn't stop. Neither did I.

Listen, I know it's hard and frustrating. I know it can feel overwhelming.

I'm hearing from people who searched for 9-11 months who are now getting offers. This job market requires us to be flexible and know our worth. What I mean by that is it's okay to take a lateral move instead of the "next" climb up the career ladder. If you need to generate income to support yourself or your family, consider one role below.

This isn't the time to think about what others will say or the perfect brand story of your career. Work is work.

And here's what I need you to hear: if you're tired, rest. Not as a reward. As a requirement.

After you apply and network, take a break. Workout. Even 20 minutes of movement increases blood flow to your prefrontal cortex and sharpens focus. Cook a meal that's nutritious. Your brain runs on glucose, and stable blood sugar helps you think clearly and make better decisions. Take a walk.

Don't doom scroll. Don't fall into the comparison trap. That drains you.

I get up each morning and read various news publications to see what's open now. I share that with the Resilient Leader Insder email list because I've worked with professionals across sectors, and I know it's important to have a resource that keeps you in a resilient mindset.

Bouncing back requires that you stay in the game, even with not-so-great headlines, struggles with mindset, or life events that force you to question your worth as it relates to your professional career.

Two Quick Tips to Re-Engage Your Network

1. Be specific

Skip "Happy New Year, let's catch up."

Try this: "I saw [Company] just announced [specific thing]. Made me think of your work in [area]. You still there? I'd love 10 minutes to hear what you're working on."

Specificity gets responses.

2. Make it easy to help you

Don't say: "I'm looking for a job, do you know of anything?"

Say this: "I'm targeting roles in [specific area] at companies like [3 examples]. If you know anyone leading teams in that space, I'd appreciate an intro."

Clear ask. Clear context. Easy yes.

You can do this. You have what it takes. You are not alone.

This is a season to build, and that happens one moment at a time. Consciously picking the attitude you need to move forward, aligning your habits (even if you need to drop one), and taking action toward the goal.

I'm not a recruiter. Apply directly with the company. If a link breaks, go to their careers page.
