Stop Letting AI Ruin Your Resume

Stop Letting AI Ruin Your Resume

Try This 5-Step Fix

If you’re applying for jobs right now, chances are you’ve either used AI to rewrite your resume or thought about it. I’ve noticed a BIG problem… most people take what the tool spits out and send it as-is.

That leads to resumes with fake numbers, overblown claims, or sentences that don’t even make sense. Recruiters see right through it.

Quantity without quality = instant rejection

So let me give y’all the five-step method that works. I introduced the L.A.T.T.E. Framework in my book Don’t Leave Money on the Table for negotiation, but L.A.T.T.E. can be applied to almost anything, especially prompting an AI tool.

L — Look Start with clarity. Know why you’re a fit before AI drafts a line. DO Ask AI to begin by asking you 3–4 questions about your impact and results. DON’T Let AI make up your story without your input.
A — Anticipate Think ahead about what recruiters and ATS systems expect. DO Highlight the keywords in the job posting and make sure AI weaves them in naturally. DON’T Keyword-stuff or force phrases, it reads fake.
T — Think Align your resume with your actual career story. DO Ask AI to write bullets that show measurable results, not just tasks. DON’T Copy job duties straight from the description. That doesn’t stand out.
T — Talk Make sure your resume matches how you’ll speak in an interview. DO Have AI generate interview questions from your resume, then practice answering them out loud. DON’T Add anything you can’t explain in a real conversation.
E — Evaluate Quality-check before you send. DO Read your resume out loud and ask, “Is this accurate, does it sound like me, does it show impact?” DON’T Skip this step. AI often invents fake numbers, titles, or jargon.

Quick exercises to try

Look: Paste the job description into AI and prompt, “Ask me three questions that show why I’m a strong candidate.”
Think: Write one bullet using Action verb + number + how you did it. Example, “Reduced processing time by 15% by designing a new workflow.”
Evaluate: Hand your resume to a trusted friend and ask, “Does this sound like me?” If they hesitate, rewrite.

AI can save you time, but it can’t own your career story. That’s on you.

Use L.A.T.T.E. as your filter and every resume you send will be intentional, accurate, and credible.
